Baptism

Ready for Baptism?

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, baptism is your next step!

What is baptism?

Baptism is a sacrament within the Church that signifies the acceptance of the benefits of the atonement and incorporation into the Body of Christ. Baptism is a means of Grace PROCLIAMING faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

"... all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life." -- Romans 6:3-4 (CSB)

What does baptism look like at Calvary Church?

Here at Calvary we strongly encourage you to be baptized by immersion. This means that you will be immersed under the baptismal waters and raised immediately.

If you have a special request for pouring or sprinkling, we would be happy to honor that request.

When you are presented before the church to be baptized, we will ask a few questions confirming your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Does baptism save me?

No, baptism itself does not “Save” you. Salvation is found in knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us: 8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — 9 not from works, so that no one can boast.

There is nothing we can do to “save ourselves” We can only be saved through faith in Jesus and what he has accomplished for us on the cross.

Why should I be baptized?

Jesus instructs us as believers to be baptized. In fact, Jesus himself was baptized. This is important for us as believers as we publicly express outwardly what God is doing inwardly.

Do you have to be immersed to be baptized?

In short, no. We offer baptism by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling. I encourage immersion, if possible, but we are willing to accommodate if needed.

What if I was baptized before, do I need to be baptized again?

No, if you have been baptized, your baptism does not “wear off”. If you have struggled in your faith or even walked away from the Lord, we encourage you to re-commit your life to Christ. We will also encourage you to stand up and share your testimony with the body of Christ. We recognize God's grace which was at work with your initial baptism. His grace is SUFFICIENT for you.

If I am considering baptism, what should I wear?

Please bring a change of clothes. When baptized, please wear something DARK and something you are ok getting WET. Calvary will provide a shirt for you to wear, but we ask that you bring a change of clothes so that afterward, you will have something dry to change back into.
